President's Newsletter March 2021

Dear fellow member,

We are now well into March and there are positive signs around us. The first Spring flowers are blooming, the days are stretching and hopefully restrictions may soon be reduced.

We had a tremendous response to the photography competition with over 250 photographs being submitted by 88 competitors. The judge chose the 6 best photographs in each section and an overall winner which was his favourite photograph. Congratulations to all the very talented photographers who entered the competition, the winners of each category and especially the overall winner, Nicky Watson of Roxburghshire Federation. The winners’ names and their photographs are available in the member’s area of the SWI website www.theswi.org.uk

All members can register to access the SWI members area where committee and board minutes, all competition rules and entry forms, policies and the SWI constitution are also available. Federations have an area to post their newsletters and event information.

The Warnock Trophy for a Limerick was also well supported with 85 entries. The winning entries will be available again in the members area, under competition results- Warnock competition results 2021. www.theswi.org.uk/members-area/competitionresults/

This month our CEO, Raymond Pratt has announced that he intends to retire on 31st December, 2021. Raymond has been a great asset to the organisation and his guidance and advice over the past nine years have been instrumental in streamlining and improving our decision making processes. I look forward to continuing to work with him throughout this year.

Although the Directors have decided to cancel the 2021 Royal Highland Show, they hope to run many of the competitions including the Handcraft competitions “behind closed doors”. Information will be posted on the RHS website as soon as it is available. www.royalhighlandshow.org
