Dear Fellow Member,

We had our second Virtual AGM and I was pleased to see that we had even more members attend this year. When we held our AGM last August none of us expected that we would still be meeting virtually in May, 2021. Zoom has allowed me to join meetings around Scotland and hear some interesting and talented speakers but I still hope to be able to join “real” meetings soon!

With a view to meetings starting up again, a week of events is planned commencing on Monday, 6th September with a “Back Together Blether” –when institutes are encouraged to meet up inside (if allowed) or outside.

Tuesday, 7th- Denise Mina, author, will give a talk at 7pm

Wednesday, 8th- speakers arranged by E&I- at 2pm Ramsay McGhee will talk about the Mountain View School for the Deaf in Malawi and at 7pm George Anderson of Beechgrove Garden will speak.

Thursday, 9th- speakers arranged by Handcraft and Homeskills committee- 2pm Sheena Norquay on Quilting and 7pm Gary MacLean, winner of Masterchef the Professionals.

Friday, 10th September- an Institute Rural ramble, wearing blue and gold and a distance to suit members. Photographs would be appreciated for our “Women Together” Magazine.

All the speakers will also be recorded and uploaded to the Scottish Women’s Institutes TV YouTube channel. They can be downloaded and used at Institute meetings, if required, along with all other SWITV YouTube videos.

The results and photographs of the winning entries in the “Gardening Scotland 21st Birthday card” competition are on the website (competition results). www.theswi.org.uk

SWI members claimed many prizes at the Royal Highland Showcase Handcraft Championship recently. Many congratulations to May MacCormick who achieved the Reserve Champion award for her beautiful Sanquhar inspired fingerless gloves.

There are several new SWI competitions on our website and social media pages. Look out for the hat and sock knitting competitions, design and make an outfit for Fergus, design a card competition. Entry forms can be found in the Downloads section of the members area. www.theswi.org.uk

All members can register and access the members area.

I am delighted that the Golf Competition is going ahead this year at Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club on Monday, 23rd August. Thank you to Wigtownshire Federation for hosting this competition. I am looking forward to seeing everyone there.

Stay safe and well.

Kindest regards

Anne
