Up and Running! by Diane Cooper CEO

After nearly three months, I am up and running! I am learning how the organisation functions and where there is a need and, more importantly, a desire for change.

The members I have met so far, have been very welcoming and open with lots of honest feedback, which I understand and can relate to as a newbie. We are here to provide opportunities to bring women together, to learn, share and pass on knowledge, and enjoy interests with fun – this will be my key focus.

After a successful strategy day last week with the staff team and board, we are looking forward to consulting with our members and listening to what they have to say. A consultation process will take place in the spring along with a survey, so please participate to make sure your support or concerns are heard.

To build on the last century and continue the cultural heritage of the SWI, a strong sustainable membership is crucial. I am excited to let you know there will be a new membership drive campaign to attract new members and raise awareness of SWI. Growing our membership is essential for the future, and we need your support, so please look out for this campaign news and communications.

As we enter a period of change, shape up a new strategy, and cautiously come out of COVID, we have decided to postpone the National Conference and combine it with the Handcrafts and Homeskills Conference in 2023, where the organisation will be in a much stronger position to celebrate with members.

We have a new format for the Annual General Meeting on 28th May 2022, involving a guest speaker and member discussion panel. Having the AGM online ensures we can reach as many members as possible across Scotland. Please book your place at the AGM https://www.eventbrite.com/cc/whats-on-66729

I want to highlight the ACWW European Conference is being hosted by SWI in Glasgow on 19th – 23rd September 2022.  There is an early bird discount which ends on 1st April. If you would like to come along, please contact my colleague Carrie who is leading this conference educ.int@theswi.org.uk

I am looking forward to continuing my member discussions and engagement, I want to hear members' thoughts, perceptions, and aspirations for the future as we collectively shape up a new strategy.  Please feel free to get in touch diane.cooper@theswi.org.uk

Thank you
