Consulting with members by Diane Cooper CEO

Our draft strategy, which has been formulated by the Board and staff, has been made available for member consultation, which is a key milestone. The main aim of the consultation is for members to participate and be included in changing the future together. Inclusiveness must be at the heart of what we do.

Our draft strategy, which has been formulated by the Board and staff, has been made available for member consultation, which is a key milestone. The main aim of the consultation is for members to participate and be included in changing the future together. Inclusiveness must be at the heart of what we do.

A declining membership and the fallout of the pandemic have had a significant impact on the organisation. If we are to survive for the future generations of women, we will need to adapt.

The overarching goal of this strategy is to change; we want to preserve the past and involve the present in shaping the future. There are four aims that guide our strategic priorities:

Undergo transformational change - Implement significant change in the constitution and internal operations

Drive membership growth and added value - Develop a comprehensive member-centric culture and membership strategy

Achieve financial sustainability - Reduce costs, develop income diversification, and explore funding

Be ambitious - Develop an innovative plan for a Visitor Learning Centre for all women in Scotland

The consultation will last 8 weeks, and we are trying to reach as many members as possible across all of Scotland’s Institutes and Federations.

We know that we don’t have all SWI members details, and many members are not online so we have devised a group survey where they can meet up and gain support from a facilitator to complete a group response.  Our SWI digital champions and some Federations have offered support in facilitating these group meetings.  There are other ways in which members can participate such as asking a friend to be a proxy or requesting printed copies. The next magazine will have a pull-out section for subscribers to complete and post back to Research Resource who is the company analysing the results.
