Evelyn Baxter Scholarship 2025

Evelyn Baxter Scholarship | In Person | SWI Central Office | October 14th-15th

We are pleased to announce that entries to the Evelyn Baxter Scholarship 2025 are now open for all SWI members. All information can be found on the form on how to enter etc.

Currently we are only accepting scholar applications – at this time, no fee-paying pupils will be on this training course. We will open day 2 of training up to members who would like to be taught in a trial session by the tutors but more information will be available closer to the time about this.

SWI Heritage Project Group Monthly Meeting

Online event | Sept 26th | 6pm-7pm

The Heritage group meet on a monthly basis to drive forward progress for the SWI Heritage project, with an objective on preparing a ready to go collection for the planned Visitor Learning Centre.

Any member is welcomed to join this group, whether you have a specific story to share or simply want to stay informed, to join us for an informal online evening session.

  • Time: 11am-3pm
  • Location: Ps & Gs (St Paul’s & St George’s) Church, 46 York Place, Edinburgh EH1 3HP. The location is close to Edinburgh Bus Station and Edinburgh Waverley Station. Alternatively, you can drive to Ingliston Park & Ride and take the tram into Edinburgh as there is a tram stop (York Place) directly outside the venue.
  • Refreshments: A light lunch will be provided.

SWI Skill Share - Homemade Chutney & Bramble Jelly

Join Jean as she shares the skills and techniques learned from her Mum, Stella, and Granny Geddes, along with her own updated tips. Jean will guide you through the step-by-step process of making your own chutney and bramble jelly. While we won't be able to make it in real time due to the length of the process, Jean will demonstrate each stage, ensuring you understand the all-important setting points.

Unlock the power of your pen in this year's writing competition. We invite participants to explore the theme of 'If you know a good thing, pass it on' by submitting your captivating written pieces in the form of an inspirational letter.

The competition prizes are:

SWI Evening Natter: The Great Tapestry of Scotland's Andrew Crummy MBE

In the first of this new series of chats with some of the hottest stars, we meet artist Andrew Crummy MBE. Andrew is the artist behind many major Scottish artworks – The Great Tapestry of Scotland, The Cancer Tapestry, The Scottish Diaspora Tapestry and the latest, The Dundee Tapestry, all detailing Scottish life and history.
Join us for a chat with Andrew about his work, what inspires him, and how he achieves the delicate balance between creating an immense artwork with a unified style and giving freedom to individual stitchers to make their own contributions.
He’ll reveal the secrets behind them – and the strong links to the SWI!

National Ruralympics Competition

SWI would like to invite entries to this year’s Ruralympics competition which will be hosted by Angus Federation on Saturday 5th of October 2024 at Webster's Sports Centre, Prosen Road, Kirriemuir DD8 5AT.

Creative Crafts

 October 24th - 27th | 7pm - 8pm | In person

Join Us at the Creative Crafts Show in Glasgow! 

We are excited to invite our members to volunteer at the Creative Crafts Show from October 24th to 27th in Glasgow. Whether you’re available for a morning or afternoon slot, your help would be invaluable. Volunteers will receive a free pass for the day. 

Additionally, we are looking for enthusiastic crafters to lead our popular Make & Take sessions. These sessions run daily from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Make & Take volunteers will enjoy a free ticket to the show and will be reimbursed for the materials used in their sessions.
