Welcome to the SWI Events Info section. We host a series of events and competitions throughout the year and across the country.
These are currently on hold during 2020/21 due to the Covid restrictions. Please check back soon for up-to-date information which will be published on our News section.
The Matter of Opinion Competition will be held the morning of 30th October, the National Quiz will follow in the afternoon and will take place at Cardross Church Hall, Station Road, Dumbarton, G82 5NL. If your Federation wishes to enter this competition, please complete and return Part 1 & 2 of the forms that have been sent to Federation Secretaries by 1st October 2021. The forms can also be downloaded from the Members' Area of the website (Downloads folder) or by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org
The Anstruther Gray Competition will be held the morning of 6th November. If your Federation wishes to enter this competition, please complete and return Part 1 & 2 of the forms, which have been sent to Federation Secretaries, by 1st October 2021. The Evelyn Baxter Scholarship School - ‘Improve Your Basic Knitting and Finishing’ with Joyce MacRae will now be held from the 11th to 13th October 2021 at the Dean Park Hotel, Kirkcaldy.
The class is presently full for fee paying pupils . Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org in the event of a cancellation if you wish to attend. The cost is £200.00 and you would be responsible for your own travel, accommodation and meals.
The Scottish Country Dance Weekend will be held at Fisher’s Hotel in Pitlochry from Friday 18th to Sunday 20th March 2022.
Registration is at Fisher’s Hotel on Friday afternoon from 3pm with dancing lessons after dinner, with further instruction on Saturday and Sunday mornings. Please note there will also be a class on the Friday afternoon for less experienced dancers (if required). This class will be going through the formations of the dances which will be taught during the weekend.
The closing date for applications is Friday, 29th October.

The 2021 Warnock Trophy Competition is for a short story about positive experiences of lockdown 'The Best Bits of Lockdown, maximum 500 words. The closing date for entries is 22nd October 2021. The entry form can be downloaded from the members' area of the website (under downloads) or from the E&I Events Co-ordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org
We are running a competition to make an item of clothing for Fergus, the SWI Bear. Fergus is looking forward to getting out & about to see you all and is looking for some new clothes. The item can be anything you like, jumper, trousers, jacket - a whole outfit. Fergus's measurements can be found on the entry form. We are running a competition for the talented knitters out there. This is open to all members. For beginners/intermediate/experienced. Entry is free. Please note that this is for a Hat and Socks, not Hat or Socks. If you wish your entry returned, please indicate this and enclose return postage, or if the item will be picked up.

With the health and wellbeing of our members being a priority, the Study Tour will be postponed until 2-6th May 2022. Anyone already booked to visit the Cotswolds can transfer their booking, all those booked will be contacted separately. Further information on the tour is below:
The tour will travel down to Stratford-Upon-Avon. There will be pick up points in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Gretna Services. The tour is based for four nights at the Stratford Manor Hotel. The Study Tour will include a visit to some of the Cotswold Villages, Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle. The Education & International Committee are inviting members to enter the Art Competition 2021. This is a competition for Individuals to enter over the next few months, with a closing date of 1st October 2021. The entries should be an interpretation of the poem ‘Sea Fever’ by John Masefield (the full poem is on the entry form).
This is a newly created one-off competition for Individual members to enter. The rules are on the front page of the entry form. The entry form can be downloaded from the website (members' area/downloads). If you have any queries please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.

SWI organises national competitions in curling, stadium bowling, outdoor bowling and golf. Federations select a team(s), usually by competition, to represent them in the competition. Further information can be obtained from the Education and International Events Co-ordinator - firstname.lastname@example.org. The website will be update with any future sporting events.

The new revised Handcrafts & Homeskills schedules are now available for downloading in the members area. New certificates have been added. These will take effect from Spring of 2022.
The schedules can also be emailed on request. For the Homeskills schedule, there are additional notes for the Vegan & Vegetarian Meal certificates.
This will not affect the members who have already applied for their certificates.

SWI offers members the opportunity to attend weekend schools, particularly in handcrafts and Scottish Country Dancing. These are held in suitable venues in various parts of the Scotland.

Due to the current Covid restrictions this has delayed the arrangement of dates for the postponed Spring 2020 certificates. As soon as it is possible to do so, the Federations involved will be informed of proposed new dates. For example Federations that were due to have their certificates in Spring 2021 and Autumn 2021 will now be able to sit them in Spring and Autumn of 2022. The deadlines for the 2022 certificates will now be October 2021 for Spring 2022 and 1st March 2022 for Autumn 2022.This will affect future federations eligiblity to sit their certificates. Federation and Handcrafts & Homeskills Secretaries have now been informed. Please contact your secretary or the Handcrafts & Homeskills Events Co-ordinator. In the meantime, please bear with the SWI as we try to adjust to the current circumstances which has had a profound effect on all SWI events.
