Junior Dippers Programme brings generations together

The SWI’s Junior Dippers programme is gaining momentum across Scotland, offering children and young people hands-on learning in crafts, cooking, and baking. Designed to promote intergenerational skill-sharing, the initiative allows experienced SWI members to pass on traditional skills to the next generation.

Thanks to support from the Sylvia Aitken Charitable Trust and the WM Mann Foundation, grants of up to £300 are helping new and existing groups thrive. Recent recipients include Ross-shire & Sutherland Federation, whose established group has introduced children to activities like sewing, cross stitch, and cyanotype art. Their creations are even sold at a pop-up shop in Dingwall.

In Aberdeenshire, the Echt Institute is launching a new group after 16 families expressed interest. With up to 25 children expected to take part, the group promises to be a vibrant new space for creativity and community.
