A home for our heritage

Ambitious plans

We are on a journey to find a home for our heritage, a place where our physical collections and digital archives can come together to celebrate the stories of Scotland’s women. While our plans depend on funding, we’re exploring opportunities across Scotland with our partners, funders, and members.

Our vision is an ambitious one: to create a vibrant hub where memories, traditions, and voices are shared through events, exhibitions, and workshops, a space that supports income generation, membership growth, and long-term sustainability.

By joining forces with others who share our vision, we can build a home for our heritage — one that celebrates Scotland’s women, past and present, and empowers future generations.

Member voices

The SWI Heritage Project continues to make significant progress in capturing the often-unheard voices of rural Scottish women across the country. Through interviews with SWI members and connected communities, the project documents their memories, traditions, and the profound impact the SWI has had on their lives. These stories are being carefully preserved to ensure the rich history and cultural heritage of rural Scottish women are remembered and celebrated for generations to come.

A series of training sessions have been held across Scotland, these sessions enable more women to participate in recording members in their own communities. The workshops were well-received, fostering community spirit and skill development across different regions.
